more ny questions

My husband and I will be in NY from 27thDec - 4th Jan. We are flying into Newark and out from JFK. We are staying in a hotel 6 nights (and with cousins 2 nights)

Firstly I have narrowed our hotels down to

1. Mansfield $1765 (incl B/F)

2. Holiday Inn Manhattan $1651

3. Hyatt Regency New Jersey $1436 (incl B/F)

It is our first visit to NY so I`m wondering is it easy and quick to get from NJ to NY city. It says 10 mins on their website but it this accurate? We`re not really looking for luxury but somewhere that is comfortable and convenient and a little romantic.

Our visit coincides with New Years Eve. We were thinking of the whole Times Sq thing but we done something similar last year in Sydney and the whole waiting around, crowds etc was a bit of a let down. Would there be a view of fireworks from Jersey city?

Also My husband loves sports. Will there be any sporting events on around this time?

Thanks a mill

My partner works nest to the Hyatt and we live in Greenwich Village, I takes him about 1/2 hour to get to work on the PATH - but he has to change trains to get there. The train that goes to the Word Trade Center is indeed a 10 min ride, but from there you have to get to where you are going. You also should consider wait time nights, weekends and holidays when the trains run less frequently and you can wait up to 20 mins for the train to arrive.

You can get more info, including schedules, at the PATH web site: www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/

The PATH has is a separate system and has a separate fare of $1.50. While you can use a PAY PER RIDE metrocard to pay your fare you can%26#39;t use an unlimited ride one on the PATH.

PS which Holiday Inn?

more ny questions

I guess it depends on what the diff. in money will mean to you and whether you intend to go out at night. It%26#39;s not very convenient to have to go back to the hotel in New Jersey to change for the evening etc.

The Holiday Inn on 57th st. is ';ok.'; Is that the one you mean? The Mansfield I think would be much nicer.

Sports...

Football: the New York Jets will host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Dec 31at 1pm. They play in New Jersey, easily accessible by NJ Transit bus. Football tickets are typically hard to get so try now if interested. The Giants are out of town that week.

Hockey: the NY Rangers will host the Washington Capitals on Saturday, Dec 30 at 7pm. They play in Madison Square Garden in midtown Manhattan. The New Jersey Devils (who play next door to the NY Jets from above) host the Washington Capitals on Friday, Dec 29 at 7:30pm. The Rangers and the Devils play each other on Tuesday, Jan 2 in New Jersey at 7:30pm.

Basketball: the Knicks are out of town while you%26#39;re here. On Saturday, Dec 30 the New Jersey Nets (who play in the same arena as the Devils) play the Minnesota something-or-anothers at 7:30pm.

I haven%26#39;t seen the rooms at any of those, but from location alone I%26#39;d go with the Mansfield.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

We have decided to go for the Mansfield. Purely for location and convenience.

Now all I need to do is decide what to do for NY eve...which seems to be a pretty hot topic at the moment so I better get cracking.

Thanks again

El
