We (three of us) will land at JFK on Wednesday afternoon and I am planning (for simplicity) to get a cab from the airport to the Cosmopolitan Hotel. I understand the fare is a flat $45 plus tolls plus tip - so we%26#39;re looking at $60 all in?
We return to the airport the following Monday in time for out flight of JFK at 8.15pm. I was wondering whether we may be better off getting the subway from Downtown to avoid some of the traffic (and we will have a Metrocard). I realise we would have to get either a bus or taxi from the subway station to the airport anyway. Does this seem like a good idea or is it more hassle than it%26#39;s worth?
Downtown to JFK
I stayed at the cosmo last March and it%26#39;s dead easy to get the subway to JFK as long as you don%26#39;t have really really heavy bags cause you have to go down some steps to get to the subway at Chambers (right outside your hotel). Hop on the A train which takes you all the way to Howard Beach and then you transfer over to the airtrain which for $5 each will take you to your terminal :)
Downtown to JFK
We took this option when we were last there. We stayed at the edision nr times sqaure and the journey took about 40 mins to get to JFK although we did end up stading for the majority of the time as it was quite busy!
Thanks, that sounds very easy (and possibly quicker than a cab if there%26#39;s a lot of traffic). I am now considering doing this from JFK to the hotel on Wednesday too but could do with some help on the tickets I need to get.
I understand that I get the AirTrain from JFK to Howard Beach - this is $5 and presumably I buy this ticket at the airport (it says something about needing a Metrocard)?
Then, I want to buy a 7-day Metrocard for $24 - can I buy this at the same time or do I get this at Howard Beach which I can then use for the subway part of the trip to the Cosmo?
I%26#39;ve only done it coming back but you can get your $24 metro card at Howard Beach (and use that for your journey to Chambers) and your $5 airlink card at the airport :)
I live here and would never dream of trying to get to JFK on the subway. With three of you and luggage, it%26#39;s just much easier to take a taxi and not worth the money you%26#39;ll save.
Coming in it%26#39;s a flat $45 fare, plus tip and toll, so you%26#39;re looking at $55-60 total (that%26#39;s for all 3 of you, NOT per person!). On the way to the airport, I have typically had drivers ask me if I want to use the meter or pay a flat $45 fare. From my apartment on Madison Avenue in midtown it%26#39;s usally about the same, so I take the flat fare if I think I might get stuck in traffic.
I%26#39;m not sure where you buy the Airlink ticket. A Metrocard is a transit card good for subways and most city buses. They are sold on either a per ride basis ($2 per ride) or good for unlimited rides during a certain period of time (like the 7-day Metrocard). They can be purchased at any subway station, either from the window or from a machine that accepts cash and credit cards.
Hi Sara1984
We are also staying at the Edison.
Which option did you take getting to JFK? Was it the cab or trains?
How much was it please?
Many thanks
Jane
www.nyairportservice.com - airlink they pick you at airport and drop at hotel. It is costing me and my daughter $68 return ($34 each way) this may be a better or cheaper option
