What time for Top of the Rock?

We%26#39;re landing at LGA at 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon and are planning on taking the mass transit to our hotel, the Hilton New York which, I believe, is located near Rockefeller Center. (We won%26#39;t be taking a taxi since, for personal reasons, we prefer to use mass transit whenever it is available.) I was wondering what would be a good time to reserve for a visit to TOTR. Is allowing 2 hours to get to our hotel and check-in enough time? How long does it take to walk from the Hilton to the TOTR? A trip to the top seems like a nice way to begin our NYC visit.

Thanks,

Jennifer

There%26#39;s no need to reserve for Top of the Rock. There%26#39;s very little wait and they%26#39;re giving out various discounts outside the venue which you won%26#39;t get if you order online.

Don%26#39;t know what your reasons are for mass transit, but the bus/subway thing from LGA is a real pain imo. If you don%26#39;t want a taxi, take the Express Airport bus.

The stop at Bryant Park would probably be closest to the NY Hilton. From there, walk straight up 6th ave. or take the 6th ave bus and get out at 54 st.

Thanks so much for the reply. We%26#39;ll definately wait to get our tickets. About the bus, I am a strong advocate for establishing some form of workable public transit and walking/cycling paths where I live. The system down here is almost useless. I therefore make a point of using mass transit wherever it is available. I know it%26#39;s not as convenient but I kind of enjoy the challenge of the whole thing. For me it%26#39;s part of getting to know the city. We%26#39;re very light (backpack) travellers and New York has got to be easier than Beijing. BTW my husband thinks I%26#39;m crazy.

The other 2 airports in NYC are relatively easy now for public transit (train) but LGA isn%26#39;t despite the fact that it%26#39;s the closest to Manhattan.

That did puzzle me, but my cheapo AirTran flight only went to LaGuardia. We%26#39;ve only taken the train in into New York until now and I%26#39;m missing my nice commute to the hotel from Penn Station.

Anywho, anybody out there have an idea of how long it would take your average middle-aged couple to walk to Rockerfeller Center from the Hilton New York? I%26#39;m trying to figure if we can make it over for sunset.

Thanks,

Jennifer
