Lunch after Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island

We%26#39;re looking for an inexpensive place to have lunch after visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We%26#39;d like something in the Battery Park area (or anything within walking distance). I%26#39;ve looked at menupages and other sites and am still overwhelmed by the amount of choice! It will be my husband (51) and myself (46). Here%26#39;s what we%26#39;re looking for (in order of importance):

Lunch for %26lt;$15 per person (not including alcohol).

We%26#39;d like to dine indoors. We%26#39;ll be there in early January, perhaps something warming after a cold morning%26#39;s sightseeing.

Something different or unique to NYC (not really interested in chains we can find at home).

We%26#39;re from Louisiana, so no Cajun/Creole/Southern please.

We%26#39;d prefer not to have Italian or pizza, we%26#39;ll be eating these on other days.

Thanks,

Jennifer

If you wander over to the World Financial Center after your SOL/EI trip there are many lovely places to dine there with many different cuisines ... and there%26#39;s plenty to visit and see there as well. And as it is all indoors, you won%26#39;t care what the weather is outside and yet since there are so many windows everywhere you can see those poor suffering souls wandering around outside in the cold winds of January!

There is much to be seen there (at the WFC) including the very special AmEx tribute to their employees lost in 9/11. Marvelous and very moving water sculpture tribute that shouldn%26#39;t be missed.

Just a heads up that the amount of time required to visit both venues may take 3-6 hrs. You may wind up getting hungry while there. You are allowed to bring with you or there are snack bars.

You can also try Wave (21 South End Avenue), a relatively inexpensive Japanese restaurant. It is a neighborhood place, a bit out of the way, so it is not too touristy. And it has views of the Statue of Liberty, so you can see where you have been.

How about the salad bar at Amish Market on Battery Place? It%26#39;s a high-end fancy-schmancy groumet food store that are very popular here now, with a hot and cold by-the-pound salad bar. They also have a sandwich counter, sushi bar, panini station, etc.

Not very glamorous, but it is close by and you can each get what you want.

Or, you can walk up Broadway to around Wall Street and check out some of the low cost sushi places and other salad bars. (high-end salad bars are extremely popular in this section of town!)

For a nice pub atmo, check out Pound and Pence on Liberty Street, east of Broadway. Pleasant place to rest your feet and have a beer.

I know you don%26#39;t want southern food, but what about Southwestern/Tex Mex?

Southwest NY offers a great view of Lady LIberty and the World Finanical Center marina. Might be out of your price range, but another nice place to chill.

Thanks for all of the replies. The Pound and Pence sounds just right. It looks like it would feel cozy on a cold day and we love Boddingtons on tap! Can anyone recommend the best walking route from the ferry? I guess by best I mean the most interesting. The two of us are probably going to freeze our cajun patooties off up there but we love to see cities at street level.

Thanks again. Y%26#39;all are the greatest!

Jennifer

ps Southwest NY looks good too but we were just in San Antonio and ate ourselves silly while there.
