Checking in on line??

We are travelling to Newark from Heathrow and have just about got to grips with the idea of E-tickets..!

Am now trying to figure out checking in on line...

Can some of you better travelled members please tell me how this works??

What about your luggage, how about having your passport checked etc?

I guess the idea is to cut down on queues and it sounds good in theory but Im not convinced!!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Annie

Checking in on line??

Forgot to say flying with BA!!!

Checking in on line??

I did online check in on my flights in my recent trip. You print off your boarding pass, go to the bag drop counter where they check your bags and your passport and then straight through security. At Heathrow with United it was a bit different to BA, but still saves a long queue at check in.

Annie, basically you%26#39;re getting a boarding pass online which saves time for you (and them). It probably also means you%26#39;re inputting info from your passport in advance. It%26#39;s pretty easy.

It should cut down the long queue. There is a special window with a short line saying something about prior online check-in. Get in it!! I checked in online with BA, saw the much shorter line and went up to it and asked the last guy in line about it and he looked at me like I was nuts, so in panic I grabbed my space back in the long line, then asked 2 authority figures who were keeping the line in check and they told me NO, that short line was not for me. Don%26#39;t listen to anyone. Just get in the short line, lol.

Thanks for asking this question - I am also toying with checking in online with BA for our flight from Manchester to JFK on Wednesday :-)

Something to remember though - according to the BA website, you should only print off your own boarding cards if you%26#39;re absolutely sure your printer will be able to do it to a high quality - because if they aren%26#39;t good quality, you will have to actually PAY to get new ones when you are at the airport!! I%26#39;m not sure whether to risk it...

Whilst I%26#39;m here, does anyone know approx how many hours you need to be at the airport before the flight? I know it%26#39;s usually about three hours - is it any different for flights to the USA?

We checked in online from MAN to JFK ,and chose seats also.

Didn%26#39;t print boarding pass, but no queuing at airport was a refreshing change!!

IOU12 - So did you just go to one of those self service machines to get your boarding passes?

I travel to and from scotland/newark with Continental. I check-in online and pick my seats, then i print my boarding pass. When the on-line check-in was new, yes there was a short queue for those who had checked-in online to drop off their luggage, but guess what, now that lots of people check-in online there are long queues to wait in just to drop off your bags both in Newark and glasgow.

RNnyusa....yes,I kinda guessed this might be something that happened as it got more popular.Guess we%26#39;ll be sticking with the tried and tested way!! Thank you to all that took time out to advise.
