A group of 20-something%26#39;s and I will be visiting NYC between Christmas and New Year%26#39;s. It is my first trip to NY, and I couldn%26#39;t be more excited about going. I know we will be visiting the traditional tourist stops, but we are also going to immerse ourselves in the NY holiday experience. What are some little-known suggestions of things to do while visiting during this time? We are going to be there for 4 full days and want to do as much as possible!
NYC during Holidays
Most, if not all, of the Christmas-related activities I can think of are obvious and 100% tourist. Maybe the only exception is the Union Square holiday market thing, but it%26#39;s mostly junk being sold.

Head downtown to the Winter Garden (in the World Financial Center) to check out their tree and have a drink or a snack or go down to the Seaport. Walk behind the seaport to the cobblestone streets and you will feel like you are in a movie. There are tiny little restaurants and bars all decorated and none of them are truly mobbed with tourists. For a birds-eye view of the Rock Center Tree, head up to the fifth floor of Saks Fith Ave (right across the street) and go to SNAKS. They have a great view of everything and it is quiet and elegant. If you want to go ice skating, skip the Rock Center Rink and head over to Bryant Park. If you%26#39;re a sushi or celeb fan, make resevations @ Koi for dinner in the Bryant Park Hotel (make them now!)
The Metropolitan Museum of Art decorates its tree in the Medieval Sculpture hall with an amazing collection of 18th C. Neapolitan creche figures -- this is the only time of year to see them.
Try to avoid Times Square on New Year%26#39;s Eve!!!!!!!!!
We go every Christnmas for two weeks. We stay on the Upper East or West Side and head down into the heart of Manhattan through Central Park. The Park walk is beautiful. We do it every morning and night. The City welcomes guests in the morning, and glows, strutting its sutff, at night. New York knows how to do Christmas. Not sure where you are staying, but get to know your neighborhood if you can. The true beauty of New York is in interaction with the people. We like to find neighborhood restaurants with good food for lunch and dinner. Talk with the staff. We have made many friends and always look forward to seeing them again, each year.
