Christmas and New Years in New York

We are from British Columbia Canada and I am giving my husband a Christmas gift this year - A trip to New York . We arrive Christmas Eve and Leave New Years Day. He is retiring from our city Fire Department in January after 30 years of service and I know he will be grateful to pay his respects to his comrades of NYC while still on duty. We are staying at the Novotel (hope it is clean and friendly).

Question: How can I arrange for him to visit a few firehalls, exchange some shirts (we did this in Europe) and is Ground Zero a place where we can pay our respects. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

I can%26#39;t tell you anything about visiting firehouses, but you can pay your respects at Ground Zero. I wanted to let you know I have stayed at Novotel several times. It is in a convenient location and a very nice hotel.

When you are at the WTC site make sure you go to St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel which is nearby and was used by the rescuers and other workers at the site. It also has some memorials inside and is of interest in itself since it is one of the oldest churches in NYC. You can visit any firehouse by just going there. The garage doors are always open and the fire fighters are always willing to talk to any visitor as long as they do not have a call and particularly to another fire fighter. There is also a Fire Fighters Museum which is not far from the WTC site. See Link:
