Best way to book a hotel in NYC for Dec 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to decide on what hotel to chose from for our honeymoon in Dec 2007 (10th - 20th). I know this time of year is expensive anyway in NYC but I got the 2007 brochure from my travel agent and the prices are astronomical in comparison to the guidelines on TA. Someone must be making a lot of money. Is it better to book the hotel through the hotel itself or another website? I was interested in the Intercontinental The Barclay and I e-mailed them for a quote and I was quoted $490 per night including tax and rates. (brochure was quoting $560 a night) I thought this was a bit high but I thought it was because I was looking for a date so far ahead that they gave me this rate. When would be the best time to book a hotel for Dec 07. I was thinking Jan 07 but I would appreciate your advice. We are looking to stay in the Midtown area and we have a budget of $350 - $400 per night. Does anyone have any advice for me please? Thanks all

Unfortunately prices are sky high in NY particularly around the time you%26#39;ll be going - TA%26#39;s prices are a little out of date. Just remember to book something that%26#39;s cancellable then if you do get a better deal nearer the time you can take that up and cancel the old one. A lot of hotels aren%26#39;t showing prices for Dec next year yet so it might be worth waiting til January.

I%26#39;ve always fancied staying at the Sofitel just cause it gets great reviews and seems nice. That%26#39;s showing a rate over xmas this year of $439 but they haven%26#39;t got next years dates up - could be worth mailing them - www.sofitel.com.
